Automatic sample importing is possible if you have a chip classifier that has an external database (e.g. GRADEX or RADER). We can easily import several database formats by following the steps outlined in this article.
Prerequisites:
- A working GRADEX or RADER classifier
- A working internet connection at the location of the classifier
- Optional – Manager or Admin permissions for “Users”
- Optional –Manager or Admin permissions for “Chip Data”
Setup:
- Create a Non-Human User (NHU) Account
- Create a new Data Source
- Allow Egress Network Traffic to The Chip Lab
- Share Classifier Database (MDB) with Support
- Install and Configure DataSync Client
Create a Non-Human User (NHU) Account:
In order to add a new data source to a pulp mill, you must first create an affiliated Non-Human User (NHU). Do this by going to the Users & Permissions section of the program via the side-menu.
Press the Add User button at the top of the screen to open the “Add User” dialog.
At the bottom-left of the dialog window, press the “Non-Human Account” switch. This should update the fields and reduce the number of inputs available.
You only need to enter a System Name in the first tab, everything else is in this tab automatically assigned.
Go to the second tab to affiliate this Non-Human account with your pulp mill. Select the appropriate mill and click “Add Affiliation”.
Note: Do not select a supplier before affiliating the account or else this will not work properly.
Once you have completed the steps on both tabs, the “Create User” button should now be enabled. Press it to finish creating your Non-Human account for your data source.
Create a new Data Source
This feature is currently managed internally by support. Please contact support to complete this step.
We will open this feature up to Manager & Admin level users soon.
Allow Egress Network Traffic to The Chip Lab
In order to successfully transmit data to The Chip Lab from a managed network, you must:
- Ensure that you have a working network connection on-site where the classifier’s database is located
- Have a PC with network / shared folder access to the PC where the classifier’s database resides
- This is often the same PC that the classifier’s database resides on
- This PC must have internet connectivity
- If internet access is restricted, the following information can helpful in granting appropriate network access to enable data transmission as well as keeping the data-sync client up-to-date
- Ingress / Egress network traffic is allowed for the following:
- Domains:

- Protocol: HTTPS
- Port: 443

Share Classifier Database (MDB) with Support
During the setup process our support team will need to receive a copy of classifier’s database (typically a Microsoft Access Database, e.g. MDB) in order to configure the data-sync client on our end. This process typically takes a couple days to complete and sending the file is not always a trivial task since email will block MDB attachments unless renamed or zipped / compressed.
Perform the following steps to send a copy of your database to our support team:
- Locate your classifier’s database file (e.g. cats.mdb)
- Make a copy of the database file
- Create a new Compressed / Zipped (.zip) folder
- Move the copied database file into the .zip folder
- Email support with the new .zip filed attached
Important: Make sure you add a subject & message body to prevent our spam filters from blocking the message entirely.
Once the database has been successfully received by our support team we will confirm with a response email and begin the configuration process on our end.
Install and Configure DataSync Client
Once all of the other steps have been completed, our support team will send an email containing installation instructions for the DataSync client. They will include a download link as well as your data client credentials.
Note: Data client credentials can be re-keyed in the case of lost or compromised credentials. Please contact support in the event of such an incident.
