Colombia enacts world-first cattle traceability law targeting deforestation Colombia became the first tropical forest nation to enact cattle traceability legislation (Law 2585 of 2026), signed June 4, requiring beef supply chains to be cross-checked against land tenure and deforestation data. The law positions ranchers and exporters for compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation, in a country that has lost 3.3 million hectares of forest largely to cattle ranching.
