Buyers hunt for value as lumber prices firm against seasonal pattern Western Spruce-Pine-Fir 2x4 held at US$500 mfbm — up 12% (+US$59) from a month earlier and 4% year-over-year — as Western-SPF supply stays well short of typical levels, Eastern-SPF availability remains limited, and some Southern Yellow Pine mills run up to two weeks behind on shipments; hot, dry conditions and early-season wildfires are adding pressure on fibre supply. NL Hydro extends power purchase deal with Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro renewed its interim power purchase agreement with Kruger's Corner Brook mill for one year, effective July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, allowing purchase of up to 280,000 MWh of mill-generated electricity at C$187/MWh; the province says the extension buys time to assess Kruger's diversification proposal for the mill without raising customer rates.
