Palm to convert King's Lynn PM 7 from newsprint to recycled containerboard Germany's Palm Group will convert Paper Machine 7 at its King's Lynn mill in the UK from newsprint to lightweight recycled corrugated case material, lifting annual capacity from 400,000 to 700,000 tonnes, with completion expected in the first quarter of 2027. Palm cites a roughly 60% decline in Western European newsprint demand over the past decade and will concentrate its remaining newsprint output at Eltmann, Germany. Source: PaperAge
AF&PA: U.S. packaging papers up 2%, printing-writing paper down 8% in June American Forest & Paper Association data show total U.S. packaging papers and specialty packaging shipments rose 2% year-over-year in June (up 6% year-to-date), with the bleached packaging operating rate at 91.3% and unbleached bag & sack shipments up nearly 15%. Valmet to supply major wood handling line to The Price Companies in Arkansas Valmet will deliver a debarking and chipping line — including a trunnion-design debarking drum and disc chipper — to The Price Companies in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, capable of processing 475 tonnes of softwood and hardwood roundwood per hour to supply chips for pulp and paperboard operations, with startup expected in November 2028.
