Canfor to permanently close Northwood pulp mill in Prince George, B.C. Canfor announced July 14 that it will permanently close its Northwood NBSK pulp mill in late Q4 2026 following an orderly wind-down, affecting about 300 employees and removing roughly 300,000 tonnes of annual northern bleached softwood kraft capacity. The company cited structural shifts in global pulp markets, oversupply and depressed pricing, and persistent fiber-access challenges that have driven a prolonged period of unsustainable losses; severance and redeployment to other Canfor operations are planned.
