U.S. orders 50% tariffs on Canadian pulp and paper imports, effective August 19 Under three proclamations signed pursuant to Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, the administration will impose 50% tariffs on Canadian goods spanning nine pulp and paper categories — including dissolving pulp, printing and writing papers, tissue and hygiene papers, containerboard and packaging, specialty papers and converted products. AF&PA President and CEO Heidi Brock urged the administration to target unfair global practices "while preserving the North American supply chains that support U.S. manufacturing, jobs, investment and growth"; Canadian retaliatory measures are anticipated as negotiations intensify ahead of the August 19 effective date.
